DESCRIPTION:The workshop is geared towards parents and caregivers who have children with special needs. The workshop will focus on tips and strategies from a parent perspective to give you tools and skills to take care of yourself while taking care of others. We will explore ways to increase self-care\, manage emotions and utilize community resources. \nPresenter: \nKelly Phillips joined the Family Support Network of Eastern North Carolina in July 2019 as the Executive Director. Since beginning her role as Executive Director\, Kelly has worked to expand upon the 30 year legacy of supporting families FSN of ENC has provided\, by growing the community based family supports offered through the Parent to Parent Mentoring Program\, the Family Connections Program\, Educational Workshops and Family Care Bag program for 18 counties in Eastern North Carolina. Kelly actively serves on numerous Local Interagency Community Collaboratives\, Pitt County BRACE\, Pitt County PIMPAC and other community based organizations. Furthermore\, it has resulted in immeasurable loss. As a result\, many are experiencing a sense of grief and sadness. The following presentation is designed to discuss the various forms of loss resulting from the pandemic\, symptoms of depression\, and ways of coping. \nPresenter: \nDr. Veronica Hardy is a Professor at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke\, licensed clinical social worker\, and author. She holds a doctorate in counselor education and supervision and a master’s degree in social work. As a clinical professional\, she has provided counseling to persons ranging from children to adults on life experiences including anxiety\, depression\, and daily life transitions. Throughout her career\, she has sought to communicate about the importance of mental health and through public speaking events\, as well as through her writings.
