Ongoing Funding Sources
North Carolina Partnership for Children (Smart Start)
North Carolina’s award-winning early childhood initiative designed to ensure that all children are ready for school. These funds, which are awarded annually, must support programs and services for children ages birth to 5.
Smart Start is North Carolina’s nationally-recognized initiative to ensure that every child reaches his or her potential and is prepared to succeed in a global community. Smart Start helps working parents pay for child care, improves the quality of child care and provides health and family support services in every North Carolina county.
Smart Start measurably increases the health and well-being of young children birth to five, building the foundation for all future learning, by:
- Improving children’s early care and education programs so that they are safe, healthy and provide opportunities for children to learn skills they need for success in school.
- Providing parents with tools that support them in raising healthy, happy, successful children.
- Ensuring that children have access to preventive health care
N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, NC Pre-K
NC DPI’s NC Pre-K program provides funding so that children who are four year olds and are at-risk, a quality pre-kindergarten experience which is proven to have lasting effects by preparing these children for success in school.
NCDHHS also works in cooperation with the Social Services Commission, the 100 local Department of Social Services and other public and private entities to protect children, strengthen families, and help all North Carolinians to achieve maximum self-sufficiency.
Child Care Services Association (CCSA)
CCSA provides funding for child care resource and referral services, which supports families by increasing access to quality care and education and provides training and professional development for child care professionals.
Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust
Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust was established in 1947, with the mission to improve the quality of life and quality of health for the financially needy of North Carolina.
