We had a WONDERFUL and SUCCESSFUL All Pro Dad Summit on Wednesday, June 24th facilitated by Mr. Daniel Riley of Teach for America (Managing Director of Teacher Leadership Development). Great conversation took place between principals and assistant principals of both Nash & Edgecombe County school districts, faith-based partners, team captains, and dads. Because of the relationships established by Ready Schools and Ready Communities with the schools, faith-based and community partners, we were able to bring together 10 schools (represented by principals, assistant principals, school counselor, pastors, mentoring partner, team captains, and dads) for an awesome reflective, informative, and strategic planning session for next year. One father attended with his two sons (who also gave their input on how awesome the program is).
Schools represented were: Baskerville Elementary, Benvenue Elementary, Coker-Wimberly Elementary, D.S. Johnson Elementary, Englewood Elementary, Fairview Elementary, G. W. Bulluck Elementary, Princeville Elementary, Williford Elementary, and J. W. Parker Middle School. Partnering Faith-Based and Community Partners represented were: Nehemiah Wall, St. James Baptist Church, and Youth Mentoring Program (YPM).
A special video thank you message from former NFL Coach Tony Dungy was shared. Everyone left inspired, exhilarated, and with direction to enhance the All Pro Dad program to include some strategies around health, physical activity, and literacy for next year.
Special Thanks also to Chick-fa-la, a national supporter of All Pro Dads, which donated lunch to us, consisting of their delicious new entrée: chilled grilled chicken sandwich.
