We are deeply saddened to share that we have lost a beloved staff member at DEPC. Joyce West was a true champion of children, families, and the community. Details for services are as follows:
Joyce Pope West, age 63, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2021, at Wake Med Hospital from Covid 19. She was born in Richmond Virginia on December 19, 1957. She was preceded in death by her father George Rudolph Pope and mother Dorothy James Pope.
Joyce was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Joyce was a compassionate preacher’s wife and has made home at many churches over the years where she enjoyed playing the piano and being active in the church. In her spare time, she loved cooking, scrapbooking, and spending time with her family. Most of all she loved being a Grandmama to her two grandchildren.
In her professional career she loved working with local childcare centers. It brought her great joy to offer help and guidance to the staff and children she worked with. She was a kind spirit that was loved by all she met. Joyce will be dearly missed by all who knew her and will never be forgotten.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 46 years, David Albert West: her sons, Jason Lee West and Steven Duane West, Granddaughter Maddie West, Grandson Ethan West, her Brother Jim Pope and wife Sandra Pope, sister Jackie Dunn and husband Jimmy Dunn and nieces, cousins, and many close friends.
A Graveside ceremony will be held on Friday September 3, 2021, 11:00am at Pineview cemetery in Pinetops, NC. Visitation with family will immediately follow the ceremony.
