Each month DEPC highlights an exceptional volunteer. We rely on our volunteers and their dedication to help and support the children and families of Nash and Edgecombe counties.

This month’s volunteer monthly spotlight is on Shawanda Jordan!

Shawanda is a natural leader.  She is ALWAYS positive and enthusiastic no matter what the task.  She is a confident woman that inspires those around her to give his/her best.  Sydney Phillips, a DEPC staff member, likes to call her SUPERWOMAN! Shawanda has served as a DEPC board member and was a founding member of  F.I.T. (Families involved together). She has presented at HKC (Healthy Kids Collaborative) meetings and is willing to do anything. She currently serves on the Community Outreach Committee and the NC Pre-K Committee. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, which is a group known for having a strong volunteer commitment.

Shawanda is the director of the Good Shepherd Day School, a Shape Expansion site. Jason Rochelle, a Program Development Manager at DEPC,say that she has always been an early adopter of many of our (DEPC’s) quality assurance and health related programs to improve quality child care. Shawanda is a mother to her two wonderful children.

Thank you Shawanda for all you do for DEPC! We are very thankful to have your ongoing support and input. Thank you for being dedicated to launching every child as a healthy life-long learner by the end of the third grade!
